In the early centuries of its history, Paraty was recognized as an important port of gold flow and coffee. However, with the creation of alternative routes, the city became isolated, living almost a century of stagnation.Only in the 1970s, with the construction of the Rio-Santos highway, returned to integrate the region. If on one hand the geographical isolation and economic stagnation have limited their growth, on the other ensured the preservation of its natural and cultural heritage.Since the early twentieth century, the city is experiencing a period of intense tourist, economic and cultural development.
